Encouraging start to 2011/12 Intertown season!
We finally made a start on the 2011/12 Intertown season with a gala at Romiley on Sunday 9th October. Thanks to all the parents who came to help and support and well done to all the swimmers. At the end of the Junior event the score was very close at 41.5 to Romiley and 37.5 to Marple - this was a great effort by the Junior team. Despite a lot of close races the Seniors fell behind and the final score was Romiley 90, Marple 68. However, there were a huge number of PBs. Special well done to Edward Spreckley and Jacob, who both knocked almost 2 seconds off their PBs to win their individual freestyle events; to the 13/14 girls (Caitlin, Corrine, Honor and Josephine) who won 3 of their 4 individual events and their freestyle relay. The 9/10 girls (Gina, Georgina, Lilli and Katelyn) and boys (Daniel Coupes, Leon, Jack Buchanan and Edward Spreckley) also won their freestyle relay events. So, overall, a great start to the season - well done everyone. Our next gala is at home on October 18th against Ashton. (Posted 11/10/2011)

Octopush enthralls Marple swimmers!
Well done to all Junior and Senior swimmers who took part in the OCTOPUSH (underwater hockey) session on Tuesday 30th August. It was a unique opportunity for our swimmers to try another aquatic activity. As a spectator it was hard to see what was going on but the enthusiasm with which everyone rose to the challenge was apparent. It is the quietist we have ever heard the Juniors and Seniors as they were face down with snorkels on for an hour! A big THANK YOU to XARIFA UWH CLUB who brought their expertise and equipment. Another big THANK YOU to Simon Sangster, Phil, Phil and Michelle and the younger members of the club who worked with our swimmers. If anyone is interested in having another go or trying the sport please contact Phil on 0161 368 6859 or 0161 366 1109 or visit www.xuwh.org.uk or the National Governing Body - British Octopush Association www.gbuwh.co.uk. Intertown Team Managers' Report for 2010/11 Season
As the 2010/11 season comes to an end - a huge well done to everyone who has taken part in the Intertown galas over the last 12 months. Our 4th place overall was very well deserved (there were 37 PBs achieved on the night!) - everyone swam amazingly well - and it was fantastic to come home as winners of the Handicap Trophy for the first time since 2004! Fantastic second place for Marple at Sprint Gala!

Intertown gala against Wlmslow
A fantastic effort by all the swimmers who took part in the Intertown gala at Wilmslow on May 22nd allowed us to end the season with a draw: Juniors - Marple 35, Wilmslow 36; Seniors - Marple 36, Wilmslow 35. The Juniors did really well in the individual events, but missed out by some narrow margins in the relays. The Seniors were very depleted due to so many people being in the middle of exams, but brought the gala to a very exciting conclusion by winning three relays in a row! Everyone swam brilliantly and special thanks go to the 11/12 age group swimmers who swam in both Junior and Senior events to make up the numbers. Thanks as always to all the parents who came along to support swimmers and help on poolside.
